Green energy’s dirty secret

Many renewable tariffs aren’t as green as they seem.

Lots of energy suppliers claim to offer 100% renewable electricity. But many don’t buy enough power from renewable generators to match what their customers actually use, Instead, they buy power from the wholesale market (which includes fossil fuels). This is called Greenwashing.

And it’s something Good Energy, Coffee Plant’s electricity supplier promise they will never do.

In a press statement they confirm:  “We source enough electricity from our own wind and solar farms and from our community of renewable generators to match all the power our customers use. This means we’re actively supporting the growth of renewables in the UK”.

The basic point: if your power company sells most of its customers with non-renewable electricity then you cannot trust it to supply you with renewable.
