£5.80 per bag

A very fine Ethiopian coffee. Very similar but not quite so rich as Ethiopian Yergacheffe.

Description

When you think of African coffee, the name of Kenya is often the one that comes to mind first. Yet, Ethiopia has been cultivating coffee for centuries and is a well-respected producer of speciality coffees. Legend has it that a shepherd noticed the ‘invigorating’ properties of coffee beans on his flock and fed them to them! Foragers also consumed them, but as a source of food, and unroasted.

Ethiopian Sidamo is considered one of the best coffees in Ethiopia. The Sidamo region is made of fertile highlands, providing the perfect growing conditions for coffee plants as much because of the soil rich in nutrients as the altitude which allows the beans to mature slowly and develop complex flavours. This coffee is known to make a full-bodied beverage with floral notes and low acidity.

The Ethiopian Sidamo we stock is both organic and Fairtrade, like many coffees we sell. It is roasted by our master roaster by eye, and not through a computer-controlled program, guaranteeing that, from beginning to end, we offer only the finest coffee from harvesting to brewing.

Grown at altitudes of 1,500-2,000 meters above sea level

Harvested between October and January

Milled by full washing and drying on raised beds

Has the aroma of red wine, cane sugar and wild berries

Did you realise: our coffee packs are always 250 grams, not 225 grams as is often the case with mass market coffee.
